The purpose of this historiographic article is to highlight the work as a translator of the Ecuadorian writer Jorge Carrera Andrade. To achieve this, I will first outline the dialogue between Carrera Andrade and the poets representing both French symbolism and Ecuadorian Modernism, which enabled his initiation into translation and literary creation. Then, the practice of translation is presented through a glimpse of his translated work, and translations' critiques. Finally, I focus on his critical essays that portray how Carrera Andrade conceived translation. To conclude, the importance of translation in the life and literary work of Carrera is evaluated
